Design Competition
Royal Caribbean
Reimagining the Future of Cruising (Grand Winner, 2018)
Winning ideas crowned at Royal Caribbean International’s cruise ship design competition:
Technology, wellness at sea are key millennial goals
Travel Weekly Asia (Oct 29, 2018)
Overview
In 2018, Royal Caribbean International held a design competition to solicit ideas for a future cruise experience targeted at the fastest growing travel demographic – millennials.
Seastadium, a cruise concept targeted at the millenial obsession with health & fitness, took home the Grand Prize with a unanimous vote from the judging panel. Interestingly, some features I envisioned can be seen in later generations of Royal Caribbean passenger vessels.
Role
I worked solo on this passion project for one semester while pursuing my Master's degree.
I designed a comprehensive cruise ship concept consisting of:
Naval architecture, cruise ship design
3D visualization, animation & rendering
'Smart Ship' mobile app & wearable concept
Market research & brand positioning
Logo, branding & visual concept

"The sky is the limit in terms of innovation and what it can do for the cruise industry... What differentiated Clifford’s entry was his desire to connect with the ocean, and how we can bring the cruise experience closer to it, which is a highly interesting and refreshing concept."
Angie Stephen, Vice President - Royal Caribbean Group Asia Pacific
